Posted by admin on February 14th, 2010 and filed under steelhead fishing guide | 3 Comments »

Steelhead Fishing Catch and release of a stray summer run steelhead that shows up in Eagle Creek with Matthew Clark. Not all that uncommon but makes for a nice little high water segment. A fly rod with a drift rig is used for this C&R clip. Eagle creek can get as many as 200 of these stray cats on any given year but are not planted or natural to the creek.

Trout fishing bait at Lake Del Valle rigging tips secrets

Posted by admin on November 13th, 2009 and filed under trout fishing guide | 6 Comments »

It was an epic day of fun and sun. Had the pleasure of fishing with the Wildwood (Craig Wood) today at Lake Del Valle in Livermore, CA. The fishing was great and the catching awesome with limits brought home for the dinner table. I might add the trout were very tasty as my wife cook up a nice meal and shared some with friends. We were using Berkley sparkle chartreuse Power Bait with Shelton self releasing hook and TadPole™. We fished in several areas including the narrows, and the two large bays. We had most action by pulling boat up on points and fishing from the back of the boat. We arrive at dawn and were off the water by noon. To find out how the amazing self releasing hook works and to see the animation of release action go to http://www.sheltonproducts.com/sheltonrelease.html
To find out more about my advanced fishing invention go to http://www.sheltonproducts.com To see my video movie theater with a incredible list of how to and action fishing video go to http://www.sheltonproducts.com/shelto… To see a video of the TadPole snagless weights go to http://www.sheltonproducts.com/tadpol… There were two hook mortality study done with them in the Eastern Sierras and sponsored by US Forest service and local business men in Mono and Inyo Counties that proof the mortality rate was equal to or less than fly fishing mortality. Since you aren’t breaking off hooks in fish and with the TadPole snagless weights, not breaking off in rocks, you get in more fishing time because you are not down re-rigging so that gives you more time with your bait in the water and you improve your catch. This is especially important when you have kids, as you will not spend all of your time re-rigging them. It is especially a good feeling seeing them swim away. Berkley Power Bait and these hooks and TadPole make one of the most effective trout bait rig there is. Catch and keep, no problem, you get the hook out instantly, and catch and release couldn’t be easier. Regarding self releasing hooks. They are design to release fish without touching them. Basically how they work is the eye of the hook is at the bend of the hook and the leader line goes through a flexible plastic sleeve that goes over leader line and when the sleeve is slid down over the shank of the hook it is set and fish just like a regular fishhook. The sleeve has a second line tied to the top of this and parallels the main leader line and is attach by a sliding 3 turn uniknot tied with thread. When you slid the red knot up by pinching it or using a pocket comb it slides the sleeve up and the hook rotates and self releases.
