This short film showcases a typical day of bobber fishing for Winter Steelhead on the Oregon Coast. This piece was shot in a single day, during low water conditions in early February, 2009. Join Oregon River Guides staff and custom rod builder Sean Tate for this fun, fast moving film that illustrates just how effective bobber fishing in low clear water can be. The strings on the guides on my fishing rod are coming loose, what is the best glue/epoxy to use?

Posted by admin on February 13th, 2010 and filed under fishing guides | 5 Comments »

The strings on the guides on my fishing rod are coming loose, what is the best glue/epoxy to use? They are coming loose at the end away from the guide. I’ve been around guys that make rods and seen many made but just wanted to re-wrap and glue it but wanted to find a good quality glue. The rod is a custom made/hand made rod over 20 years old and I wanted to get another 20 years out of it, the strings look good and seem strong but need re-glueing and re-wrapping.

Thanks.

For a simple repair such as that, I’d recommend either of the following 2 products:

1) U-40 Permagloss (my personal choice)
2) Gudebrod 1 part regular build rod finish

The U-40 is about $2 more for a small bottle and
and takes longer to dry, but the finish will outlast the rod itself. Brush on a thin coat, and if you don’t have a rod wrapper, turn by hand for about 20 minutes
Remember -THIN is the key. You’ll need about 3 coats
to due the repair properly – Do not attempt to due this in one day, it takes abour 24 hours to cure. Coat, rotate, dry, repeat the next day. Use a small hobby brush to apply the finish, then throw the brush away.

Gudebrod – Pros: water clean up, dries completely in about an hour. Cheaper also. You can do the repair in a day – Coat, rotate, dry, repeat. You put it on with a small hobby brush, which you can then cleanse with water.
Cons: not as durable as U-40

Both products are available at either Cabelas.com
or JStockardflyfishing.com

Best Florida backwater fishing charter in the Fort Myers/Bonita Springs/Marco Island area?

Posted by admin on February 11th, 2010 and filed under fishing guides | 1 Comment »

I would like some recommendations on a nice, friendly backwater fishing guide in the Fort Myers/Bonita Springs/Marco Island area. My husband and I are looking for a half day charter in which we go through the scenic backwater area, catching fish that we wouldn’t normally catch in Minnesota.

is the a place to find forums or guides to local fishing hotspots in bullhead city or lake mohave?

I know you are in Arizona and we definitely won’t hold that against you, but, check out the Yahoo group Nevada Anglers and sometimes the Las Vegas Canoe Club on Yahoo Groups to get some really good contacts for fishing down there.

One of our Members that runs Angler1.com also runs a Charter Service from Vegas to San Diego, but fishes all the lakes a lot. A member runs the Nevada Striper Club which fishes mostly Lake Mead but also Mohave. Another member runs the Las Vegas Canoe Club and the newly organized Sin City Paddlers groups on Yahoo Groups. Our member Helen "Hummingbird" runs Desert River Outfitters, right on your main road in Bullhead.

We go fishing, camping, and canoeing down at Big Bend State of the Colorado Park in February or March of every year. And we also fish when we go down for the Regatta too.

We don’t have any "guides" on our trips but there are a few of us that can help with some fishing holes and great tactics on all the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Here’s a Yahoo Groups link to a photo of a Striper I caught on one of our trips this last November. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LasVegasCanoeClub/photos/album/1078317203/pic/list
